We are off for 3 days for the holiday and were told not mandatory but highly recommended we do the training resources on our own since we didn’t learn to much in actual training. So on my time off I have to do practices and if don’t do well on calls because of lack of training could be dropped. Seems like I will enjoy what I do but training is a joke. Sykes Home is a call center based out of Denver, Colorado hiring work at home agents in the United States and Canada.
There is a lot of things that I don’t have to worry about because I get to do this at home. If I have an early shift I don’t have to get up 2 hours earlier, get dressed,and get out the door at a certain time, or fight traffic. I just get out of bed, make some coffee and set up my tools and away I go. And when I am done, I log off and just have to open my office door to be “home”. P.S. I can tell you one thing I don’t miss the politics of the high school work environment.
Pay and benefits
I am okay with the job, however, I don’t plan on making a career out of this. There is room for growth in this company if you work hard and sell. I am applying here, and I am leery from what I am reading. Can you please tell me how this job would work for a single mom? I am wondering, if I am home with them, if I get a late shift…would it be really difficult if they woke up or something? I realize I would be taking phone calls, etc, so it is not ideal, I am just wondering if it is possible to make it work.
They seem like a good company but sometimes you just need to cut your loses and move on. I can't disclose which companies they take calls for but I would say 99% of them are very customer service oriented, no sales whatsoever. Our Sites are not designed for, nor do we knowingly collect, personal information from children under the age of 13. As well, after one year of service for Alpine Access and if you have worked at least 1000 hours, you are eligible for their matching 401 program. What this means is that you get paid by the hour, regardless of whether you have 2 calls come in that hour or 10 calls, you will be paid that set hourly wage.
Fast forward a month later they fired me due to "equipment tampering"... How are you gonna fire someone for something that your technician told that person to do? So not only did I lose 14 hours of tech pay cause they expect their refurbished computer that they sent me to work like new, but I was fired for what their technician told me to do . They change policies without you even knowing!

In January 2012, they started forcing agents to jump off WITHOUT PAY despite being scheduled only 1 week in advance because the call volume dropped. It got so bad that agents were only getting 10 hours per week, despite being scheduled full time or close to full time 40 hours per week. Sometimes, you would be even lucky to get even 10 hours.
I was hired to start March 30th 2015, then they changed the date to April 28th 2015 because “the needs of the client had changed” . Then they pushed it back again to May 12th 2015, saying again that the clients needs changed. I was notified of both of these changes well in advance, so when May 8th rolled around and they were talking about having a virtual open house, I was quite relieved.
And I have not gotten in trouble yet for taking personal time to go to the washroom. I have seen favoritism and you can recommend friends for this job and you get a bonus and you will see them move up off the phones, however these other jobs really don’t pay you that much anyways. I posted that review last year so I will give an update on how it is it now as now it is over a year since I posted that. Ive trained people for alpine in the past and what I realize some of you act as if you want to be spoonfed… some don’t even know to copy and paste… The job is not for everyone.
They also hire you as an employee instead of an independent contractor like most companies. This type of work from home jobs is for those that need a lot of work, most of the jobs are closer to full time work. This is also not the job for you if you need a lot of flexibility which is why I ended up having to leave. Most of the schedules are a fixed shift meaning you work the same shift 5 days a week. If you have kids in school or something like that it might be ideal but if you have babies, probably not.
You obviously need a quiet background while working and they don’t usually have too many assignments that are real late evenings after the kiddos are in bed. You do need a landline phone and high speed internet. Alpine Access was recently selected by a market-leading gaming console company to help customers resolve technical issues over the phone. All positions are available immediately and are performed from an employee's home.
